Indicators That It's Time to Replace Your Main Water Line

Without proper water flow in your home, it’s nearly impossible to live everyday life. The main water line is what helps your daily routine flow. No homeowner wants to deal with the mess that comes with a broken water line. There are warning signs to look out for that could point you in the direction of needing a water line repair or replacement.

  • Water bill jump

Leaks in the main water line can result in unusually high utility bills.

  • Clogged plumbing

A damaged sewer line can be indicated by a clog. If you experience multiple clogs and are finding yourself frequently unclogging your sewer system, it may be time to replace the main water line.

  • Water discoloration

A rust-brown tint, strange smell, or grainy texture to your water is not only dangerous, but it could mean a damaged water line. Breaks or leaks in your main water line can allow debris or dirt to enter your drinking water.

  • Drop in water pressure

If your main sewer line is damaged, you may notice your steamy high-pressure showers are becoming disappointing, more often than not.

  • Mushy spots on your lawn

If it hasn’t rained but you have little ponds of water in your yard or notice mushy, sinking areas of grass, this could be an indication of a damaged water line.

  • Pests

Roaches, rats, and other pests can squeeze into small spaces, like a damaged sewer line. If you find pests in or around your home, call a plumber ASAP.

Don’t wait until you have a flood to call; that could end up costing you more time and money. If you notice any of the above signs, contact TPE immediately.
